Some quick cricket updates for you all.

Umpiring courses

Apparently there is an overwhelming feeling among experienced umpires that online training of umpires is not being very effective. Hence the move back to in-person training. With the in-person training, the number of slots are fixed. Please check out the dates, and book the dates based on what suits you.

Please read through the initiatives being offered by the club to take up umpiring at: https://sandyfordcricket.club/2022/09/24/sandyford-cricket-club-umpiring-initiatives/

As always, if you have any questions, please call the club secretary.

Scorer courses

Are limited to 10 people per course and are free. Please see the document below for details. Please register if you are interested. Each team needs to have a few people who are well versed in scoring.

History of Challengers Trophy at Sandyford CC

It was 2021 where the entire world was slowly getting back to the normal after the pandemic. Sandyford Cricket Club has always been very ambitious for new talent and 2021 saw a big leap in the number of registrations. The number of registrations is as important as retaining the number and the talent respectfully. The numbers gave a big boost to the club going in to the season and beyond. It became very important to identify the right talent to take the club forward with an aspiration of adding more teams. In a quest for leadership and hidden talent, Sandyford Cricket Club started *Challengers Trophy* thereby creating opportunities for the members to show their talent. Club members were asked to volunteer for Captaincy and this also created a path for everyone to play themselves in a different role during the matches that were held as part of Challengers Trophy. The hunt for Captains was on and it was highly appreciated and anticipated by the club. Challengers Trophy has been successful since its inception and the results of the matches held until now is as follows:
  • Match 1: Guinness Grenades led by Gaurav vs Jameson Jacks led by Satyaki – won by Guinness Grenades. Man of the Match – Bhupinder
  • Match 2: Warriors led by Masum vs Strikers led by Vishal – won by Warriors. Man of the Match – Siddharth Gupta
  • Match 3: Invincibles led by Japesh vs Innocent Devils led by Mohit – won by Invincibles. Man of the Match – Navaneeth
More follows in the next post.

Update on ground situation

Kevin Gallagher, Mick Cotter and Dale [Cricket Leinster Grounds Consultant] visiting visited the new proposed site for the cricket ground today. The following were the results:

  • They had a list of recommendations including changing the orientation of the mat, the location of the nets bay and the location of the club house and the size of the ground.
  • They inspected the ground and made recommendations about flattening out the ground, potential timelines, laying of the mat etc.
  • They physically measured the ground again to back their recommentations.

They will now issue a ground report with recommendations, backed by Cricket Leinster. They will send this report to DLR County Council.

Sandyford CC is very grateful to the support and help we continue to receive from Cricket Leinster on the matter.

Registrations for 2023 now open

Cricket Leinster registrations for 2023 are now open. See their post: REGISTRATION FOR THE 2023 SEASON – NOW OPEN!

There is a 10% discount to be had if you register before 01 Jan 2023.

Please note: if you register early, the club can assess the number of people in the club and therefore determine the number of teams we can put forward in 2023 more accurately.

End of season 2022 committee meeting

We held the end of season 2022 committee meeting on 21 Sept 2022 at Taylor’s Three Rock.

I list below the decisions taken in the meeting.

Awards night and AGM

We will have a separate AGM and a separate awards night. We will try and hold the awards night sometime between 15 and 30 Nov. The actual date is to be finalized. We will announce the actual date, location and cost in the next 4 weeks.

We will look to price the awards night like we did the last time – EUR 10.00 ticket for every person attending.

Awards to be presented will at least include:

  • Best batsman and bowler for each team
  • Club player of the year
  • Medals for all centuries and 5-fors.

There might be a couple of more award categories – but, we are to finalize it yet.

Financial review

We completed a brief financial review. The annual financial report will be shared with all the club members at the AGM as usual.

Umpiring rebate scheme

The umpiring rebates scheme was approved by the committee. We have published scheme a short while ago.

Vision 2025 and improvements

The committee endorsed Vision 2025. The Vision statement is now with the entire club for review and comments. The club shall adopt the Vision in AGM 2022 subject to a favorable vote by the club.

Selection committee

The current selection committee will be disbanded and a new one will be formed next year. We will revise the selection criteria to suit the aims we set for 2023. All captains will be encouraged to pick players with 100% match fitness. The new selection committee will be made up of people who attend training on a regular basis and assess players.

Ground situation

We have described the situation and progress in the Ground Problems page. We will continue to aggressively push our case with the council.

Committee next year

Will be elected in the AGM as usual. We understand that there are individuals in the club who would like to be part of the committee and that is great. Nominations are invited for the following positions.

  • Club president
  • Club secretary
  • Club treasurer
  • Club captain / first team captain
  • Second team captain
  • Third team captain

Sandyford Cricket Club: Vision 2025 Consultative forum

We previously spoke about a Vision 2025. We have created this vision statement to ensure that

  • all decisions we have make have a long term goal, and
  • to ensure that the club ethos and culture are clear.

The idea is to hold ourselves to a certain standard irrespective of anything else.

The Sandyford Cricket Club committee endorsed the Vision statement on 2025. But, we will not formally adopt Vision 2025 unless the majority of the club votes for it. Remember what I said back in 2020: “We will not have centralized power in this club. Everyone is a stakeholder. The club shall progress with everyone participating the progress.

As the club president, on behalf of the club committee, I invite you all to please review the Vision 2025. Please send in your feedback to the committee. The plan is:

  • We will incorporate all comments and recommendations that align with the Vision 2025.
  • We will bring up for discussion in AGM 2022 any comments and recommendations that do not align to the current Vision 2025.
  • The club will vote to either adopt the Vision 2025 or reject it in the AGM 2025.

Since this Vision 2025 binds the current committee and every future committee [at least for the next 3 years], I ask that everyone please participates in this consultative forum.

Please find Vision 2025 on our home page: click here.
